What is foreign filing, and why do we do this step?

Foreign filing is a document filing process that occurs on a state level. Most of us are aware that you can form a corporate entity in any state, and you are considered a “domestic entity” in that state. What many people aren’t generally aware of is that you can file your business entity to conduct business, or hold an asset located in a different state, other than the state that you originally filed in. You can file your business entity with as many states as you need to operate in. Each state has its own formal registration process; which is called “foreign filing”. Your NCH coach can walk you through the foreign file process for every state you’d like to operate in. This will also be a topic that will be reviewed during your first walk-through appointment.
